I can't believe I've never actually been exposed to this musical before.  [livejournal.com profile] newsboyhat  changed all that and I must confess to being rather impressed.  The music was splendid, the lyrics cleverly crafted, and the performances (albeit only in a concert rather than a dramatic setting) were top notch.  I can quite see why Lea Salonga garners so much praise - the clarity of her anunciation would have left Henry Higgins reaching for the kleenex.   Couple those qualities with a not-overdone-pathos that raised more than a couple of tears to these unwilling eyes and I must confess to being impressed.  Next step: get the soundtrack on CD for in-car overuse.

Splendid.

Aye, Les Mis is one of my favourites. Even if I invariably cry every time. That being said, the soundtrack is still in the DB atm, so that makes your next step rather easy. Your step following that should be to see the play in person. I've seen it a few times (3 times in French, once in English), and can attest to its splendor.

I saw the one in London the summer before last, it was quite something. AND, you can get tickets for less than £15. Hard to resist the allure of Les Mis when it's right there waiting for you to see it.

In DB eh? I shall have a peek when I return home this evening. Splendid, & thanks for the tip-off.

Tickets from £15....

So tempted...

Yes I actually checked for you yesterday to see if Les Mis was playing anywhere up north. Not for some time, I don't think - because it's still on the West End at the Queen's theatre. It closes Feb 2010, which is when it MIGHT go on tour around the UK, but you really don't want to wait that long.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Les Mis is good stuff. I still remember how much fun it was to put on in high school (although our Fantine was cringe-inducing).

If you get the chance you should definitely go see it!
