One thing I would add has to do with the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It centered around a mystical stone that had been stolen by the cult of Kali. There were lots of 'Thug-gee' worshipers in the film. The crazed wild eyed men in the movie are what I first think of when I hear the word 'thug'. I do realize that it was a Hollywood version so the resemblance to real life Kali worshipers is probably very inaccurate. But it is still what comes to mind.
